A couple of years ago, I made a huge chalkboard for the wall behind my kitchen table.  I got the idea from Heather Chadduck's chalkboard.
I started with a 4x8 sheet of Masonite and painted it with several coats of chalkboard paint.  Then Jeff screwed it directly to the wall.

For the frame, I simply stained some trim without bothering to seal it and we nailed it right over the chalkboard.

When we moved, we just left it behind so now I need to make another one.
It was very cheap and super easy.

Being a homeschool mom, you might think I used it a lot for school.  Nope.  It's more fun to use as decoration than for education!

And Twice Remembered at:

  1. I have that same chalkboard picture in my "To Do... someday" file. You have inspired me to move it to the front of my list! Thanks for sharing!=D

  2. Also have the chalkboard on my list of 'wants' oneday! But I didn't think to make one! Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. That looks great! I have the same inspiration picture too.

  4. I have one in my kitchen too. It gets decorated for every holiday also. With all of my photos of people, there is always that one shot of what we drew on the blackboard!

  5. What a fun and very functional idea! I am so loving your blog! Glad to have stopped by!

  6. Hi, I so love your blog. Thanks so much for playing along with my name my camera contest. I like your choice of names. Not sure if I had added the prizes to the post you read, but I just updated with prize pics, more chances to win, and an extended date.

    take care, Carrie

  7. Celeste,

I love your chalk board. I have been looking for an antique one from an old school house but I think I will spend my money on something else and just make one like you did! Thank you for sharing.

  8. THAT IS AWESOME! i just got brave enough to spraypaint with chalk paint the two doors to the pantry in our kitchen - i love having them available and want to make a bigger one somewhere -- this one makes such a statement!
