Bath surround is done!

Country Living
Isn't this a beautiful bathroom?  I love the creative use of the fireplace mantel and all of the painted pressed tin.  I had an antique claw foot tub once.  I love how romantic they look.  Look being the operative word.  They really are made to only fit one adult person at a time.  That's fine though.  I'm more of a shower person.  Also preferably one person at a time.  Sorry shnookums.  (Don't feel bad for him...we have five kids (although he would say we have a one-hundred percent success rate.  Ha!))  That's my V-Day contribution.

Moving on...

I also ♥love♥ this blue cabinet.  We're currently making due by using a couple of bookcases for bathroom storage, but we designed it to be deep enough to hold a piece of storage style furniture.  While looking for more inspiration I came across Car Moebel, a German furniture and housewares company.  It was filled with eye candy!  Here's a little sample of what I found there.

I'd gladly put anyone of these pieces in my bathroom.
Look at some of the other beautiful things they sell.
These things make me even more eager for Spring.

Mm, mm, mm.

Jeff finished the surround last night by making a hole with a hole saw for the shower faucet and caulking everything in.

Now guess what he's working on right now.  The floor!  We're going with a wood floor in there and I'll be sharing that with you all soon.

  4. I have an antique armoire with beveled glass in our master bath. It's great for holding towels and toiletries.
How long will the galvanized surround last? Is there something on it to prevent rusting?
    Looks great!

  6. Thank you for all your kind words, everyone.

Deborah, galvanizing is a process in which the sheet metal is dipped into zinc to prolong corrosion. It's the same thing that's used for metal roofing and comes in a variety of styles. It will most likely rust someday but hopefully not for years and years so I guess we'll see how it stands up to lots of daily showers. Julie, so far it has stayed very clean looking without any cleaning! Yay! ☺ Celeste

  8. How did you finish under your walls in the bathroom please, are really wanting to do this but how to do this, does the water just drip into the bath and are the edges sharp?

  9. We didn't do anything special to the walls under the metal because it wasn't needed. We used stainless steel roofing nails which keeps water from getting into the screw holes and if you'll read the post titled, "Galvanized corrugated metal shower surround" you'll see more details like using what's called Z channel and trim at the bass of the metal and we'll use J channel at the top to prevent any water from dripping behind the metal. Yes, the edges are sharp, but none of the edges are sticking out so that isn't a problem. My husband and I and our five kids use this shower daily and we haven't had any regrets or troubles with it. Good luck to you!

  10. Thanks for your quick reply, they are doing it as we speak, and I think it looks fantastic. Is it easy to clean?, I am tossing up whether to stick with the silver or to get the black coloured one, but are unsure about cleaning.

  11. It has been easy to clean. I occasionally wipe it down with a wet cloth and a couple of drops of shampoo while I'm in the shower to keep the soap residue away. (I do this about twice a month.)
The black color sounds very interesting. I'd love to see that!
